Breeder's Description - 'Heavy Duty Fruity'
|
One Word "Monstrous" will describe this plant. A huge producer with giant cola's will make any "bud waver" happy. Absolutely the best indoor producer we have seen yet. Ideal for planted method 20-30 p.s.m. But beware we don't call it heavy duty fruity for nothing, this plant smells Strong! So air cleaners or ozone generators are suggested.

HDF is 50% Sativa 50% Indica. The heritage is Killin Garberville x Mendocino Hash Plant x Seattle Big Bud.
I bought HDF about a year ago from Gypsy. I had 100% germination and ended up with 7 females out of 10 seeds. 5 females looked 50/50 and finished in 8 weeks and 2 looked like 70% Sativa or more and finished in 12 weeks. The yields ranged from 3 to 6 ounces. I kept 2 of the heaviest yielding 8-week mothers and posted photos of a bud from each of the lines to show the slight differences.
HDF has a spicy, fruity smell and taste. So don't worry about THSeeds description about the smell. It has a potent cerebral high bordering on psychedelic.
HDF is my "Holy Grail" because I grow for yield. So my quest has been to find the most potent, highest yielding, SOG strain with a Sativa high and finish in 8 weeks. Believe me this wasn’t an easy quest because most of the high yielding SOG strains are mostly Indica and have a lethargic high. The only time I like to smoke Indicas in late evenings.
Another thing I love about HDF, she is a joy to trim. I hate strains that require tons of trimming.
I’ve grown most of the well known high yielders like Chronic, Ice, Big Bud, Big Skunk, M-39, Shark Shock and so on but HDF wins hands down as the best. Commercial growers would be wise to grow HDF to give customers a better high and still get top yields.

I grow HDF at 4 clones per sq. ft. and average 4 ozs. I flower clones when they are 12" and the end up 30" at harvest. I use 75 watts HPS per sq. ft, 6" square pots, Pro-Mix, Ionic nutes and drip irrigation.

Only word I could say about this strain is BIG BUDS. I think that's where the Heavy Duty comes in. But as for fruityness it wasn't all that of a sweet taste or smell compared to the other fruity sweet smelling strains I have tried. I also give the high a good rating. It may not look so potent but it was very smooth and had a nice kick. Not too couchlock but it was well worth it. I had no complaint from the samples I gave away only good compliments. Ease to grow. It took care of itself all the way til its last 2 weeks in flower. Then that's where I had mold problems but I get mold problems with almost all types of strains cuz of my outdoor conditions.
I would greatly support this strain for its big heavy thick buds and ease of grow.

These plants grew easily in hydro (ebb and flow then bubbler than DWC with powerheads). They gave me an average yield.
But some of the worst weed I’ve ever grown. I read some posts about this strain saying it's the "holy grail" for me it's the worst strain I grew. I'm sure of one thing, I wont grow it again.
Out of ten seeds I kept 4 females and none were very potent. One of the four tasted ok but still the worst strain in my garden which isn't full of top quality strains (Northern Lights, BubbleGum, Super Skunk, White Widow, Big Bud). I haven't tried many mostly sativa strains but for example C99 is a million times better than HDF in my honest opinion.
I got the seeds from THseeds and I don't blame them because they have some fine strrains but this one isn't one of them.

I grew the seeds on an ebb and flow table under neon lights. I got 5 females and kept the 4 best.
for flowering. I put the plants in big DWC containers with power heads (amongst other strains). My flowering space is 12 feet long, 2 feet wide and 5 feet high. I use two 400w HPS Son Agro lights and 1 250w.
I do perpetual harvest technique so every 10days I put 2 plants to flower and harvest 2.
I get around 1.5oz per plant and HDF was just average compared to other strains.

I grew out 3 seeds, 3 females. 1 never made it while 2 performed well and grew like champs. The bud outdoors is a mission to say the least, massive buds, massive mold. The buds were incredibly thick but no light got to the core so it all rotted. I saved major amounts but lost major amounts. From 2 plants I yielded close on 500g with another 150g of molded herb to process later.
The smell was very intense while drying and made myself and the wife quite sick. Very crystalized, compact herb with a slight fruity smell more on the off fruit side. Difficult to explain the smell. The high is pretty standard, when the herb is smoked at the right time it can be a very enjoyable heady smoke. I find it can`t cut through a tolerance though.
Grow more for yield indoors I`d say. Outdoors the yield isn`t as impressive. I`d give this one a better rating indoors where actual plant size isn`t a factor. I found outdoors it was taller than all the plants and became top-heavy. For those wanting the good all-American Indica this one is a good smoke and a good yield.

February, 003 |
Received clones from 3 different females from original breeder's pack. They grew quickly in veg and were flowered after only 10-14 days.
Flower onset was a little on the slow side but once it started, the plants just kept packing on the buds. This was the highest yielder I have had in my garden to date. Smell was very nondescript and minimal throughout most of the plants life.
They finally started to develop some smell in the last week or 2 of flwering. The smell was pleasant on some, one had an exceptional orange soda like smell. However, it was not nearly strong enough for me. Bag appeal is good too, the buds are dense and very crystallized, and the high is above average with a slight sativa component.
I let them go 60-67 days although they probably could have been taken slightly earlier. This is an excellent commercial strain if that's what you're looking for, but for my head stash I'm looking for something with a stronger smell and taste. Not to say it isn't excellent marijuana, I'll probably grow it a couple more times before I make my final judgement.

This was an easy strain to grow. High male ratio. We got two females and one seemed more aromatic then the other, but pretty much the same all the way around.

Typical Vertical 2000w setup. All sodium during veg.
Grown hydro in buckets using Advanced Nutrients.
I overdid the nues a couple times and often the PH soared to levels that were NO BUENO. 1 plant (NOT HDF) died, and the others showed a lot of stress. The HDF showed the least stress. It's a hearty plant.
The pics in this report are from a later grow in organic soil with same nutes. Towards the end of the crop, I cloned a flower and put it on 24 hours to re veg... hoping to keep the strain. It rooted quickly, but never went back into veg. First time I've seen a budding plant refuse to re veg. I've heard that it happens.. but not to me!
The yield on HDF is great. Nice thing about THSeeds - they're honest when they describe a strain. No hype - unless it's called for. What you read is what you get. I recommend this for any first time grower or a commercial grower. Few strains will yield any better than this one. The drawback is that while there is great bag appeal, lot's of people don't consider this strain to be "chronic" smoke. It's heady and rather clear, but it doesn't knock you in the dirt. Still, I think it's one of the strains out there that really deserves it's good reputation. It's also pretty stable as far as variations in phenos, so you don't have to worry about the only 2 females being bad ones.
